Mr. Arvind Kejriwal was born in Hissar in Haryana. After graduating from IIT Kharagpur in 1989, he joined Tata Steel. In 1992, he joined the Indian Revenue Service and was posted in the Income-tax Commissioner's Office in Delhi. He, with others, started "Parivartan" [Change] to bring transparency in the working of government & public institutions. Because of the efforts of Parivartan, the Income Tax Department had to implement major initiatives to bring transparency in its dealings with the public. At the instance of Parivartan, the Government of National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi has taken several other steps to clean up the public administration in Delhi.
Mr. Kejriwal and his associates have relentlessly campaigned against corruption in New Delhi using the Delhi Right to Information Act of 2001, and were involved in the effort to get the national Right to Information Act passed, and become law in October 2005. Mr. Kejriwal also played a catalyst role in the formation of the Citizen's Forum Against Corruption (CFAC) under the aegis of S K Dubey Foundation for Fight Against Corruption in India.
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has been conferred the Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award of IIT Kanpur for his campaign for bringing transparency in the working of government & public institutions and for getting the Right to Information bill passed for the benefit of society at large.book
