Atul Kumar works as Principal Scientist at ABB Corporate Research Center, Bangalore. Before joining ABB, he worked for Accenture as General Manager (Research) in their Technology Labs in Bangalore. In
past he has worked for Microsoft and IBM Research. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. Atul received his PhD and MTech degrees both in Computer Science and Engineering from IITK in 1998 and 2004 respectively. During his stay at IITK, he helped the Computer Center in setting up its new Internet infrastructure and also the new range of Linux workstations. He also helped several labs in various departments to setup their Unix servers and workstations. He was also instrumental in setting up andconfiguring the environment for the ACM ICPC when it was first time conducted in India at IITK and was the only student in the steering committee of the contest. He also conducted the Students Gymkhana annual elections as its Chief Election Officer for two consecutive years. Atul has served on several institute and department level committees (such as DPGC, SPGC, SSAC, CEMMC, EPC, etc.)After graduating, he has maintained the links with the Institute and the alumni. He visits the institute whenever he gets a chance and gives talk in the CSE department. He also participates in the alumni get together whenever possible and have attended the alumni get together at California, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Atul is married with Alpana (also an IITK alumni) and they have a six months old daughter Anika.
